Papermaking workshop photos continued...

In my last post I  shared some photos from a papermaking workshop I held several years ago. The last post showed the equipment, some of the pulps, etc. This post shows some of the examples of the actual work produced by the students. 

I still can't believe it has taken me nearly 2 years to be able to find these photos.

Papermaking workshop photos

I just found some photos from a papermaking workshop I ran a few years ago. I had always planned to publish them on here but when my computer died a few years earlier I thought I had lost them. I just found a copy on an old portable hard drive. It reminds me of the importance of backing up your work. I will post a whole pile of the photos (yes I'm biased) but I think there are some really great ones.

I haven't taught papermaking since this last workshop as there is a huge amount of preparation needed. Maybe one day I'll teach another one.

The photos shown were a 4 day workshop that included a whole range of papermaking techniques.

I actually had a semi decent photo taken of me during the Jackie Abrams workshop. I was working on my sculptural basket when it was taken.

Jackie Abrams Workshop final baskets

Well here are the final photos from the Jackie Abrams workshop. I've had a really bad neck and so haven't been able to post them before this.

I posted this little basket in an earlier post as being finished. I've since bent the corners down a little bit more so that you can see inside the basket better.

This is the start of a bought basket that I covered in my handmade paper.

Jackie Abrams workshop continued

Well today was another day working with Jackie Abrams making bias plaited baskets. Below are photos of my work in progress and then my finished piece.

Southern Textiles Conference- Joy Harvey

Here is a sneak peak yet again at another Southern Textiles Conference tutor- Joy Harvey. Joy Harvey lives in South Australia and works in Reverse Applique. Her work is absolutely beautiful and she is a wonderful teacher who loves to share her passion with her students.

Southern Textiles Conference- Effie Mitrofanis

Another tutor teaching at the Southern Textiles Conference is Effie Mitrofanis from NSW. Effie is a wonderfully experienced teacher and a really lovely person to work with. She has recently published a book called Threadwork (pictured below). 

Below are some photos of her work. She works with lots of different threads and fabrics and mainly works with hand embroidery.

Jackie Abrams workshop started

Well today was the first day of my Jackie Abrams workshop, I had a great day and learnt all sorts of new things. Jackie is a lovely teacher and one who passes on all her little secrets and tricks. Not all teachers are willing to do this and it helps to make the difference between a good teacher and a great teacher.

We spent the day working on a bias plaited basket, made from rag paper that we hand painted at the start of the day.

Jackie Abrams Workshop

School holidays are finally here and I'm off to a workshop for the whole first week. I'm attending a one week workshop with Jackie Abrams from America. The workshop is called 'Re-cover the surface'. Below are a couple of examples of Jackie's work and the titles of the work. I will post what I create during the week at a later date.

Southern Textiles Conference- Carol Wilkes

Carol Wilkes from Queensland is one of the tutors at the Southern Textiles Conference. She works in a range of areas including wearable art and wall based textiles pieces. She is a fantastic teacher (I did one of her workshops a few years ago) and manages to pack so much information into a short period of time. She shares all her trade secrets and so wiling to help students in anyway possible. Gorgeous person.

Below are examples of her work, these ones are mainly comprised of machine made cording.

Southern Textiles Conference

From the 4th to 7th of October, I am helping Suzanne Gummow to run a Southern Textiles conference. The week consists of workshops with a range of tutors as well as nightly artist talks. The tutors include Kirry Toose from NSW, Carol Wilkes from QLD, Joy Harvey from SA, Jackie Abrams from USA and Effie Mitrofanis from NSW. I will be participating in Jackie Abrams workshop and will post photos when the week actually starts.

Below are photos of work made by the fantastic Kirry Toose. She is the most beautiful and creative textile artist. She primarily works in the wearable art area. Her work is exquisite, every little detail is considered and the finishing is of the highest quality. Kirry has won lots of competitions and awards with her work, this is a tribute to how talented she is.
