Exhibition has received fantastic feedback

The art textiles group I'm part of SAlt (South Australian living textiles) is finishing up its first exhibition in Melbourne today. The exhibition has been on in the Exhibition Building at the Carlton Gardens for the last 4 days.

We have had fantastic feedback from a whole range of people. It always hard for people to know what to expect in terms of the quality of an exhibition when they have been unable to view any of the work prior to the opening. All in all it has been a great 4 days and I can't thank the other 4 members of the group enough. Thanks Judi Bushby, Julie Haddrick, Suzanne Gummow and Francie Mewett.

Doing some hand quilting

I did a lot of work for the SAlt exhibition group earlier in the holidays, but haven't finished a couple of the pieces. One of the pieces I'd been working on involved a lot of applique and it resulted in the background fabric becoming slightly puckered. Therefore it is time for me to do some hand quilting.

I've only ever made one 'quilt' as such (quilts aren't really my thing) and it was for a friends baby so it didn't have to be perfect. This quilt however is for an exhibition so I thought I better actually do it right this time. I went over to Suzanne Gummow's house to do a trade. I helped her with some blogging issues and she helped me pin my quilt. Below are a few photos of the quilt pinning.

As the work is part of an exhibition, I cannot show photos of the actual 'real' work. Our group has agreed that no work is to be shown before it is exhibited.

So tonight's job is now to do some hand quilting so that I don't leave the safety pins in too long and they mark the fabric. 

SALT- South Australian Luscious Textiles

I feel bad as I haven't been posting much of my work on here lately. There is a reason for this however, and it isn't just that I'm totally slack. I"m part of a textiles group called SALT- South Australian Luscious Textiles. There are currently 4 textile artists in our group and we have been working together since the start of 2011. We complete one textile piece every 3 months and we work to a set size and a set theme. The themes are decided as a group and we each take the theme in our own direction.

We are hoping to exhibit some of the pieces in 2012 or 2013. Until the date of the exhibition, I can't show anyone (other than the SALT group) my work and therefore I can't post anything on here.

Its been great for me joining such a group, as it has forced me to actually produce to a timeline. I'm one of these people who has a thousand projects on a the go at once and this way I tend to actually get things finished.

I'm currently finishing off my third piece of work and have been doing the design work for the fourth piece.

I've just finished reading the book 'twelve by twelve' which has been really helpful in understanding how other groups work. It also talks about the importance of blogging. I've been blogging for a while now and people have written a few comments but other than that maybe it is just me reading my own work. So in other words, please feel free to leave me a comment, tell me what you'd like to see on my blog, etc.

Dare to Differ Brochure

Dare to Differ Exhibition opening night

As I posted in this blog earlier, I helped with the advertising for a South Australian Quilters Guild Exhibition called 'Dare to Differ'. The exhibition opened on the 30th September (2011) at Gallery M in Marion. We had a great size crowd and it was a very enjoyable night.

This is Cathy Boniciolli who I teach with at Marden Senior College. Two of her works were selected for the exhibition. This work is titled 'Natural Beauty', it is made mainly from tea bags that have been emptied and opened up and then hand stitched onto a backing. 

This is Susan Long who is one of my Marden Senior College students. Her work is 

titled 'Tea bag Trail'.

Dare to Differ- Art quilt exhibition

Well things have been busy lately getting ready for the SA Quilters Guild Dare to Differ exhibition. The exhibition pieces were selected for their art quilt properties.

I didn't enter anything in the exhibition as I was doing all the promotional work for it. The exhibition is being held at Gallery M in Marion, South Australia. It opens on the 30th September and closes on the 23rd of October.
