Amazing work made using screws

While muddling around on the internet the other day I came across this fantastic artist called Andrew Myers. 

He works in a whole range of mediums but one of his more intriguing ones is 'Screw's. He does a lot of portraits using screws but the one's below are my favourites. 

Below is a quote about Myers work in relation to the artwork that looks like a piece of hanging fabric.

In this dualistic piece, Andrew aimed to express the warm, soft, and smooth nature of a cloth sheet using the cold, hard, and sharp medium of steel screws. Just like actual sheets, this piece accomplishes a softer effect using a high “thread” count. In this case, the threads of 5,562 screws.

The background is created with limestone and marble dust, combined to create the effect of an actual wall.  Measures 4′ x 6′.

Eastern Silk store

I made a short stop today into a shop I really like. It is called Eastern Silk and they have a great range of all sorts of items. They sell Pashminas, gorgeous silk fabric by the roll, embroidered braids, bed spreads, jewellery, etc. I've posted their webpage image below along with a few photos from their store.

New bag- bad fabric

I decided that it was time to make myself a new bag for school. I needed one that could fit my laptop and my teachers diary in it. I bought this really cute piece of fabric at the craft and quilt show. I didn't look too closely when i bought the fabric, it simply felt nice and soft. I made the basics of the bag and it then came to attaching the patterned fabric. I then looked closely at the fabric to find it was like muslin but was made up of two layers. The pattern was only printed on the top layer and was very susceptible to laddering. The two layers were linked together with lots of little dots, basically like a form of glue dots. It was a really good warning to me to make sure I pay more attention to the fabric I buy in future.

Work going into Pepper Street Exhibition

I found out about a month ago that a piece of my textiles work has been accepted for an exhibition at Pepper Street Gallery (South Australia) titled 'backyard'. My work is based on the circular shapes found in my dad's backyard wood heap. The work is used as the header here on my blog and is also on my business card.
